A renegade vampire begins amassing a flock of true believers, threatening America’s vampire hierarchy. Weresnake Lash partners with old enemy Danial and new allies Burl and Spiderboy to track down and annihilate them. Betrayed and left for dead, Lash reemerges the victor, edging ever upward in the Assassin’s Ranking, and catching the eye of the sultry nightclub singer Cassandra Nile. Drawn into drugs by Cassie, Lash begins to doubt himself, yearning to leave his life of violence, even as enemies close in from every side.
I walked in and sat at the bar. While I was sipping my drink, I heard a sensuous voice hiss gently, “You’re Lash, aren’t you?”
I turned, ready to curse out whichever whore it was, because it wasn’t Candycane’s voice, but I stopped cold. It was the woman from the stage! Fuck, what was her name?
“Cassandra Nile,” she hissed, looking pleased. “I’ve seen you before for my act, though not in quite a while now.”
“No,” I hissed, giving her a grin. “I’ve had a lot of work to do.”
“I’ll bet,” she said, grinning back. “So, are you here to see the sights?”
“Maybe,” I hissed softly, giving her a hungry look. “I haven’t decided.”
“I’d decide quick,” she hissed seductively. “Candycane’s popular, and her standing date for this day is going to arrive in a few minutes for his weekly romp. And you want to be ahead of him, unless you want to have to pay a visit to the doctor in a few days for the clap.”
I was so shocked, my mouth fell open. “Why would you know about someone else’s lover’s VDs?”
“Because it pays to be careful,” she hissed. “I wouldn’t want any of my prospective lovers getting something that couldn’t be cured.”
I felt warm all over. Sure as shit, she was saying she was interested in laying me herself! Fuck, maybe she was older than I was, but to me she smelled like a woman just into her twenties. And she was the most beautiful snake I’d ever seen, no question.
I got to my feet. “Why waste time circling around? You want to play with me, Cassandra, just say so right now. I’m game.”
She gave me an inviting smile. “Not tonight, Lash. I have an act to do. But believe me, I’ll be thinking of you later and stroking myself. And when I come, it’s your name I’ll be calling. Think about that until we meet again.”
She walked away, swaying her hips, and I almost went after her, because her words had got me so hot I was ready to have her on the bar with everyone watching; who cared if she wanted to be coy? But I was so stiff I could barely walk, and she was gone before I could get up. So instead, I carefully mounted the stairs and walked to Candycane’s door, throwing it open before she could call for me to come inside in her sweet voice.
Huge thanks to Sheenah for having me here as part of the Shadow Man Blog Tour! At her request, I allowed Cassandra Nile to be the one to write this post. — Tara Fox Hall

First, I wanted to thank you women for reading this. I’ve cast a sharp eye over Ms. Hall’s shoulder this past month, and it appears that females as a rule are the main blog audience. So welcome, girls! I’m glad to have you with me here today.
If it sounds like I’m used to the spotlight, I am. I’m a singer, and I own my own nightclub that goes by the name of Arlene’s. Most nights I’m onstage at least for one set, if not two. I admit it’s a strain, but I’ve worked too hard to lose my club to this Depression we’re going through. I learned a long time ago that if I was going to get ahead in this world, I couldn’t depend on a man to help me; I had to do it myself. It’s been a lot of work, but every time I walk in those doors and onto my own stage, I know all my effort is worth it.
But enough about me. You’re here to find out more about my relationship with Lash. Yes, he’s as crude as the day is long, and everything bad you’ve heard about him is true. But he’s also got a gentle side I hadn’t expected to find. Most men that works as guards or “men for hire” aren’t after anything but their own pleasure—and usually, those pleasures can be pretty rough on the girls who supply them. Lash is different; he cares about making me happy. I’m not saying we get along all the time, but we understand one another, something I hadn’t expected to find with a younger man. I admit, the night I seduced him, I really just wanted a fling to make myself feel young. Some days I feel so old, especially if I have to audition some new dancing girls. They seem to look younger every year. I’m not sure what Lash was looking for when he “hooked up” with me, as you say it in this time. Maybe he didn’t know himself. I’m surprised it lasted this long, frankly. He never came off as a man that wanted only one woman.
That might seem unromantic, to think that we’re not going to have a long relationship, or that I wasn’t sure he could be faithful to me. But I’m just being honest. I’m a smart girl, and I’ve been around the block a time or two before this with men like Lash. Usually they’re faithful for a while, and then they fall off the wagon, coming with their hat in their hands to make apologies with shame on their faces. Yet so far, Lash and I haven’t strayed from one another. I admit, he’s all I can handle, and I’ve taken some steps to do my best to keep him satisfied.
That might be a serious problem we’ll face if we stay together. With our age difference, I need some, um, chemical help to satisfy Lash. He says it doesn’t bother him, but I know it’s a reminder of how much older I am. When it’s the man who is older, no one seems to care. But when it’s the woman who is older, that can sometimes be an issue for some men.
But that’s in the noise for now. The most serious thing we’ll have to face—and soon—is whose career is going to give. I’ve always been ambitious, looking toward the next big goal on my horizon. It’s what a girl has to do if she’s going to go places. Now I’m poised on the brink of success, and may be going on a tour of Europe soon. It goes without saying that I want Lash with me. But he’s not given me a straight answer, even though I offered him a salary as my bodyguard that would be more than equal to his current one for Abraham. I think he’d like to leave his life of muscle for hire for something less dangerous. But I also admit that if he says no, I will still say yes to touring. I care for Lash, but I have to do what’s right for me, too.
Thank you, and please have a wonderful day! — Cassy
